Best Mount Design Winner 2005
The theme was 'Celebrating a Centenary in 2005', and Greta Garbo was born in 1905. Her hey day was in the 1930's so I used an art deco style for the mount. It is difficult to see the detail as the mount is all white, apart from the single gold mount close to the image.
Creative Award Winner 2011
For this competition we had to frame 'a collection'. I based my entry on the 1957 Le Mans winning team of Ecurie Ecosse. Included is a small print of a Nicholas Watts painting, black and white photos, Ecosse badges, Jaguar badge and pin, a stamp and scale model of the car. Among the mount cutting features are the letters, numbers and Scottish, French and chequered flags.
Creative Award Winner 2002
For this botanical theme I chose a large red poppy, with mount and frame in black. The deep frame comprises three gloss black mouldings put together. This is also fitted with an ultra clear 'waterwhite' glass with technical coatings to reduce reflections, in the right light the glass can disappear.
Set Piece Award Finalist 2002
This was a finalist in the set piece catagory, I extended the green of the picture out into the mount and frame. I was also trying to create a tunnel effect drawing the viewer down into the image. Bevels and the outer oval slip were hand coloured in a green marble pattern.
Creative Award Winner 2007
The theme was bridges, and this is the Golden Gate San Francisco. I liked the colour and square angular shapes and echoed these in the mount design.
Set Piece Award Finalist 2009
A colourful Nel Whatmore print was this years challenge. The predominant colours are blue and green so I used these in a mottled patten across the main part of the mount. I then wanted something more colourful and layered 7 coloured papers to create a mountboard with a rainbow bevel when cut.
Set Piece Award Winner 2000
Some models and holographic paper were additions to the Star Wars print. I forget how many mount cutting techniques I used on this one but it was a lot, and four frame mouldings, two at the front one up the side and one to finish the back, where there is another picture - a star scape.
The Picture Business Finalist 2008
For this competition we had a choice of four pop icons. I hand carved Hendrix's signature out of a black core mount board, then surrounded the image with shapes of a Fenda Stratocaster, his favourite guitar.
