award winning framers
There is no single way to frame a picture. Framing as an art is subject to the same influences as any other art form, including fashion and style as well as personal tastes.
To get the best from a picture the framing needs to be matched not only to the image but to a persons preferences and requirements.
Here are a number of principles and very general rules that we use to guide us. We do not use them all every time but they are useful tools for narrowing the choice and pointing us in the right direction.
There are also examples showing some of the techniques we can add to the basic components to further enhanse the presentation of any art.
There are three sections to this framing design area:
This briefly explains the basic components found in a framed picture.
These show how we go about choosing the mounts and frames for a particular image.
Here you will find a number of methods we can use to make something really special.
Framed as if an original on canvas. No surround and large gold frame to give the image presence. A small frame would have looked lost without a mount. Diffused glass has been used to reduce reflections.
The most basic of framing options. No mount just the paper surrounding the print and simple black frame.
To show how framing can influence a pictures presentation a collection of the same image has been framed in different styles.
Versatile gold. A triple, ivory, red and off yellow mount and brushed gold frame.
Contemporary style. An off white double mount with blue grey metal frame.
Something green. A light green double mount with light and dark green coloured bevels. Mottled green frame.
Black & black. The image is on a raised platform with a space to the black mount and black frame. Ultra clear waterwhite glass with anti reflective coatings has been fitted.
Traditional style. A warm cream single mount with hand drawn decorative gold line and classic brown wood frame with gold edge.
